Brian Ott studied Zen Buddhism which eventually led him to live in Japan, where he fell in love with the Eastern aesthetic and its approach to design. He has been designing and building gardens in the Bay Area for over 20 years. While he thoroughly enjoys the creative process and working with his hands outdoors, the most rewarding aspect of his work is when clients share their own joy in being outside, playing in their garden. Brian and his family moved to Marin in 2013, yet he continues to do a majority of his work in San Francisco & Marin.

Space is an important aspect in Zen and in our design philosophy. Using the timeless elements of rock, wood, and water allow us to design and build gardens that are simple, vibrant, and enduring. Our goal is to transform one's garden into a living space of beauty, rest and repose. We value enivormental responsibility and use local, green and sustainable material whenever possible. We stress the importance of using drought tolerant plantings in our changing climate. We also enjoy including a small, edible garden whenever possible with our projects.
